The name Di Barr\u00f2 comes from the local dialect, meaning \u201cfrom the barrels,\u201d a nod to the wooden barrels traditionally used in the area to transport hand-pressed grapes from vineyard to cellar. These barrels were later loaded onto carts to deliver wine for sale. During village festivals, it was customary to carry the barr\u00f2 on one\u2019s shoulders, tapping wine directly from them as a display of strength. The name also pays homage to the family\u2019s roots, formed from the initials of Matteo\u2019s grandparents, Barmaz and Rossan, who launched the business in the 1970s. Matteo learned viticulture and winemaking from his parents, who bottled their first vintage in 1999. Today, the family farms 4 hectares (~10 acres) divided into ten parcels, producing about 20,000 bottles (~1,670 cases) of Vall\u00e9e d\u2019Aoste DOC wines annually.
